About Amber

Baltic Amber is the fossilised resin produced from ancient pine trees. Thousands of years ago, as the prehistoric climate warmed these pine trees started to produce a resin similar to tree sap that over time fossilised into hard pieces of amber that we know today.

Baltic Amber is recognised for its presence of high levels of succinic acid which is the most beneficial component of Baltic Amber. Succinic acid is a natural analgesic and anti-inflammatory known to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation and accelerated the healing of wounds.

Wearing Baltic Amber on the skin has been used as a traditional natural healing remedy for centuries.

Throughout Europe, Baltic Amber has been used for healing, restoring energy and promoting good health. Baltic Amber is associated with sunlight and warmth and has been treasured by mankind for millions of years. Mile Stones Amber helps to recreate that tradition and embrace the warmth of amber with a beautiful collection of authentic, handmade Baltic Amber necklaces and bracelets for babies, children and adults.

Amber is a symbol of wealth and wellbeing.

Where does Baltic Amber come from?

Amber found on the shores of the Baltic Sea is known as Baltic Amber and accounts for over 80% of the worlds source of Amber. It is the national gem of Lithuania in Europe. This is where we source all of our Amber products from.

The map below shows the places around Baltic Sea in which Baltic Amber is commonly found.

How does 'Baltic Amber' help my teething baby?

Baltic amber is considered the finest and most therapeutic. Baltic Amber’s anti-inflammatory properties are known to help aid in the severity of numerious teething symptoms such as swollen gums, irritability, aches and pains and even chin rash! It reduces red inflamed cheeks and stimulates the thyroid glands to reduce drooling.

But don’t take our word for it.....
Recent scientific research has also proved that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human organism. It strengthens the body, improves immunity, the course of energy-related processes and the balance of acids. Succinic acid was analyzed by the pioneer of modern bacteriology, the Nobel Prize winner, Robert Kock (1886), who confirmed its positive influence and discovered that there is no risk of the accumulation of surplus amounts of succinic acid in the human organism, even after the introduction of considerable amounts into the body.

Teething Necklaces

Teething can be a long drawn out experience for our little ones therefore it is comforting knowing there is a natural remedy on the market that we can use on a daily basis. Although paracetamol and teething gels are effective, it is not recommended to use these products everyday and or long term. Wearing an amber teething necklace is a wonderful alternative pain relief for babies and toddlers suffering teething symptoms. Although amber is classified as a gemstone, it is not actually a stone and therefore it is warm to touch and comfortable to wear.

Safety

The most common misconception about amber teething necklaces is the way they are used. Parents unaware they are a natural teething remedy assume they are a teether designed to be chewed on. This is not the case. Teething necklaces are desigend to sit comfortably on the child’s collar bone, underneth their clothing. Safety is priority when manufacturing these necklaces. To enable us to offer the highest safety for your child we use only synthetic plastic clasps. These clasps are designed to release if excess pressure is applied to the joint. Each amber piece is individuallly hand knotted with a cotton thread so that in the unlikely event the necklace breaks only one bead may fall off.  If a bead is accidentally swallowed, amber is a non-toxic natural product and therefore not harmful. Another important safety feature is the length. You do not want your babies teething necklace long enough that he or she can place it into their mouth. Mile Stones Amber teething necklaces are between 31-32cm long, the perfect length for a babies necklace.

Colours of Amber

Amber is produced in a variety of different shapes and colours from the usual yellow-orange that associates itself with the colour amber right through to milky white, clear yellows and cherry black.

Workmanship

Each necklace is made by Baltic Amber specialists known as ‘Lithuanian Artisans’ with generations of experience working with this unique and rare material. Mile Stones Amber teething jewellery features carefully polished amber beads with smooth soft edges that sit comfortably against baby’s skin - NOT sharp ‘chips’. Beware of any cheaper alternatives.
